A Brief History of ABM, Inc. A1 Tags
A1 was established July 1, 1964, and was franchised by Elliot Business Machines. At that time, A-1 Addressing Machines sold new and refurbished Elliot addressing machines and refurbished Address-o-Graph and Graphotype embossing machines.
In 1975 Elliot sold to Dymo Business Systems, which in turn prompted A-1 to sell Dymo Credit Card Writers, and plastic/metal embossing machines. Also, in 1975 A-1 acquired the regional franchise for Script-o-Matic addressing systems.
After national success and recognition, A-1 bought the Script-o-Matic national branch office in Houston and offered it’s products to the Gulf Coast area. In 1984, as A-1 Addressing Machines became A-1 Business Systems and a servicing dealer for Hasler Postage machines, selling and servicing postage solutions, folding machines, envelop inserting systems and other document handling products. In 1985, A-1 started it’s very own leasing company called ABM Leasing. In 1986, A-1 added the Norcom Embossing franchise and began selling and servicing all models. At that time, A-1 had over 20 employees and 5 offices in Texas and Louisiana.
In 2000 the owner semi-retired and sold the business but in 2002returned from retirement and purchased the company back. A-1 was re-formed as A1 Tags and resumed servicing its customers. However, A1 would now concentrate exclusively on selling and servicing embossing systems and identification products along the Gulf Coast. In addition, A1 Tags invested in manufacturing equipment and custom-made punch tool and dies to start production of their own line of precision metal ID tags.
Today, A1 Tags is again a premier servicing dealer for the two leading manufacturers of embossing systems: Matica and CIM. It manufactures and distributes throughout the world, precision metal id products and provides a service bureau for finished id tags to manufacturing entities in North America. We continue to serve medical, manufacturing, Fortune 500 companies with laser, RFID (radio frequency identification), plastic and metal identification systems. Our exclusive durable 2D embossed barcoding system is an area of great growth.
The company is incorporated as Addressing and Business Machines Inc. and DBA as ABM Inc, A1 Tags, and ABM Leasing and operates out of Beaumont, Houston, and our new manufacturing, warehouse and office in Lumberton, Texas.
